Wordpress MU 1.0 Launches
Posted November 17, 2006On October 23rd, the fine folks at Wordpress officially launched the 1.0 version of Wordpress MU (http://mu.wordpress.org/). Wordpress MU (the “MU” is for Multi-User) is the system upon which Wordpress.com is based. Basically, it allows for someone to create an multi-user administered blog system in which users can create and self-administer their own blog - think of a (relatively) easily installed version of Blogger (only based on Wordpress). Since setup is a bit more complex than the 5-minute install of regular WordPress, MU is best suited for a more server-savvy audience. However, the server requirements for Wordpress MU and the regular version of Wordpress are pretty much the same.Wordpress MU could be used to create a central hosted blog systems for teachers or students (either school/department/program wide or in a particular class). Wordpress MU is currently being used to drive the edublog (http://edublogs.org/) blog host and at Harvard (http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/home/).

Really pleased with this additional functionality. Does remind me of QuickPlace from IBM or Sharepoint from Microsoft.
I’ve just started a blog at edublog and this Worspress MU works pretty well. You can nearly use it as if you have installed Wordpress on your own webspace.

This is a really interesting concept for a few reasons. I’ve come across a few multi-blogger sites that actually confused me quite a bit until I realized they had several people blogging. I personally don’t like it when one blog for example website.com has several bloggers posting to that main site.. Splitting up the writers onto different subdomains is about the only way to make it vividly clear. That little “written by X” under each post isn’t enough. When someone wants to send an email to the article’s writer, I have a feeling quite a few people will end up sending the message to the wrong person.
As of June 21, 2007 WordPress 2.2.1 is now available. 2.2.1 is a bug fix release for the 2.2 series. Since 2.2 was released a month ago, the WordPress community has been improving fit-and-finish by identifying and fixing those little bugs that can be so annoying and by fine-tuning some small details. The result is a nicely polished 2.2.1 release.
Great recommendation, I’d be trying it out on some martial arts blogs myself. Btw, Wordpress MU is now updated to ver 1 .2.3.
This is primarily a bugfix release but it also has a security fix. So, if you are running WordPress MU, the upgrade is highly recommended.

I first come across WordPress MU about just over a month ago.
It’s hard going yes,lucky for me I had a good friend who help me to set up the server side and things, but even then there was a lot of things to learn. My site is now set up I’m very pleased with it.
I really haven’t found a purpose to start a blog with Wordpress MU. Also, there are quite a few compatibility issues that exist with MU. So, I guess I would need a concrete reason to try it out..
WordPress MU it’s one of the easy script to install (famous 5 minutes intallation) just read the manual and do the 5 steps and Your blog is running! Reagards
